Summer Learning Journey: Week 1, Activity 2.

Summer Learning Journey: Week 1, Activity 2.

Activity 1-Compare a wharepuni with your own house, Two differences, Two Similarities.

Differences:

  1. Materials used to make houses; There houses were made out of bark, Rushes, Tree Ferns, earth, thatched roof. Now houses are made out of steel, wooden frames filled with insulation. They sit above the ground on concrete and my house is made out of bricks.
  2.  Different houses for everything; They had, wharepuni (sleeping houses), pātaka (storehouses), kāuta (cooking houses) and wharenui (meeting houses). Now everything is done in one house and in my opinion this is much more convenient.

Similarities:

  1. Usage: We do use houses for sleeping just like they did (although our houses are used for a whole lot of other things not just sleeping).
  2. Shape: The same triangular shape has stayed pretty much the same.
Activity 2- Draw a picture of your dream job.

I had some problems with this because I have more than one so I ended up drawing everyone of them.

  1. Hey Hannah,

It's great to come back and see that you've uploaded another blog post! Remember that you can do as many activities you want, post them and our Summer Learning Journey team will read them all :)

First of all, I can see that you've put some effort and thoughts into these activities. Your differences and similarities are superb! I really like how you have mentioned the 'usage', 'purpose', 'shape', and 'materials' and explained thoroughly why those two houses are similar and different. Well done Hannah. Perhaps you could also include images of wharepuni and modern house so people can actually see what those two houses look like!

I too, still have many dream jobs and it's a great to know that I am interested in many things and have lots of things I want to do and try out. I believe it's better than just having one dream job or none at all! Wow, I think going overseas to Australia is very cool. There are a lot of cute cafes, famous actresses, authors, and fashion designers living there!

I hope to hear back from you and have a safe & fun holiday!

    Cheers,
    Jade C.

    1. Hey Jade,
Thanks for your comment! I hadn't thought about putting in pictures, thanks for suggesting it. I guess I wasn't thinking about the people who didn't know what they looked like.

I'm glad to hear that i'm not the only person who has more than one dream job, my brother says that I won't be able to do all of them but I reckon I will be able to. I went on holiday last year to the Gold Coast in Australia and I really liked it.

      Thanks again for your comment!

    2. Hey Hannah,

Thank you for your reply, I like getting replies because that way I know that the bloggers are reading my comment. I went to the Gold Coast two years ago! It was extremely hot and I nearly melted away, but other than the boiling weather, I loved everything there -beach, buildings, food.. etc.

I look forward to reading more of your posts Hannah!

  3. Hey Hannah.

Clare here from the Summer Learning Journey. Its really great seeing all the hard work you are doing on your blog in your holidays.
I really like this task about your dream job as I love hearing what students dream of doing when they leave school. I am a teacher so Its really cool helping students achieve this goal to get to where they want to go.

I think its fantastic that you have more than one thing you would love to do for a job. This shows me you are a very big thinker and creative person.
Do you have one thing on your creative google drawing that you would love to do more than the others? Fashion designer would be incredible.
What did the Australia part mean? Do you want to work in Aussie maybe.

Would love to hear back from you so comment below so I can hear more about your dream job. Keep up the wonderful blogging!

    1. Hey Clare!
      Thanks for your comment!

The thing that I would want to do more than the others is probably, author and actress. I love creative writing and I would just love to become an author. I want to be an actress, specifically in movie musicals, I love watching musicals I think there really cool and creative and I think starring in one would be awesome!
I want to move to australia and open a beachfront cafae (the quote cafe) I love baking and cooking and I love little cafes that are really unique and that would be the goal I would want to achieve with that.

      Thanks again!

  4. Tena koe Hannah,
Great to see you blogging over the break. You really want to leave NZ to go live in Australia?
I often think ChCh is a bit cold in the winter however I think I would move to Nelson or Northland when our kids are older. I have been to Oz and do love Perth very much.

I could see you being very good at all those careers and believe me you will have enough time to do them all. I still have not decided what I want to do as a dream job or what my next job will be.

    What is the Quote Cafe?

    1. Hey Mark!
      Thanks for your comment!

Yes I do want to move to aussie, I went there over holidays and I really liked it. I haven't been to perth, I like the gold coast and surfers paradise.

The quote cafe is a cafe I want to open in aussie as a cute beachfront cafe. I love to bake and cook and share that with other people so I think that it would be fun.

      Thanks again!
