Pet day

Last Friday was pet day. In the morning we made Sand Saucer or Vegetable Sculptures in class. Bree didn't have anything so her and I made a Sand Saucer together.

We didn't win anything but we were proud of it. I didn't have a pet to bring (We never bring our cats and our dog goes insane) so I brought my Unicorn Pillow Pet. Then we had to go outside to watch some sheep shearing, Hobby Horse Racing and Duck Herding. My grandparents were looking after my little cousin and they brought her along to watch the duck herding and other things.

Then it was lunch time, I hung out with my cousin and grandparents until they had to go home. The PTA also had a sausage sizzle and my Dad was cooking.

Then we had some agrisports to play in out house teams. (sorry no photos from that) Then the pets started arriving, I was helping juge (Read: writing) the small dogs but I got pulled away to the big dogs. (also no photos). Then my Dad and Brother came and picked me up from school and we home.

That was pet day!

Running.

This week has been Hooked on books week. One of the activities we had to do was write story with you as the main character in 3rd person. I found this difficult for a few reasons,
1. I never write in 3rd person, I find writing in 3rd person really impersonal to the reader (although I will read in it quite happily). So that was definitely different and I had to catch myself writing in 1st person a couple times.
2. Putting myself in as the main character. I found this hard, not because I don't know how to write myself but because I know how to too well. I always think about how I would write a story with me as the main character. So I found it hard to restrict myself into spilling my deepest, darkest thoughts into a story.

ANYWAY. Here is the first chapter of the story. Tell me if you want me to post the next ones and I will.

Chapter 1: Running.

Clouds, puffy white clouds stretched for miles beneath Hannah's feet. On any other day she would
have enjoyed this, and when she first climbed the beanstalk to the Cloud Kingdom she did.
The clear golden sunrise every morning was quite relaxing. But not this time, this time running
was all that mattered. But there was one problem, running on clouds - it's like running on a pile of
gravel. Your feet sink in and are hard to pull out, you stumble forward and you feel like at any
moment you could face plant.
Fortunately, this was working in her favour, because as much as she was slowing down, he was as
well. He was ten feet tall, he wore fine clothes, a red cloak, and a bow tie. On his head sat a golden
crown, that was what she was trying to steal. That's what she had to try to steal.
But she failed. She wasn't worried. She wasn't supposed the steal the crown - that's the whole point
of the story. Harp under one arm, rosy red jewel under the other, Hannah made it to the edge of the
cloud.
This was her big moment. Her feet danced on the edge of the cloud, she was delaying the jump.
Just thinking about it made her stomach drop and head dizzy. She was building her courage up
when a roar erupted from behind her, she had no choice. She tried to jump and stopped herself on
the last second.
He was drawing closer now. She could feel his shadow creeping over her like a thousand tiny spiders.
She had no choice, she had to go...not yet, not yet, she wasn't ready, not yet. She couldn't wait any
longer.
“NOW!” she yelled at the top of her lungs, taking the leap of faith.

The air raced past her, her stomach dropped, she could feel the panic rising. He brain was frozen,
she knew what she had to do but she couldn't force herself to do it. Couldn't make herself turn in the
air and grab the beanstalk.
She was now plummeting at immense speed, in any normal world she would be worried that she
would die. In any normal world, she would die. But in this world, she couldn't.
The ground was coming nearer and nearer. She could see it, the thing she needed. The thing that
would stop this mess.
The ground was close, she hit it with a hard THUMP! She let out a groan of frustration and pain.
Just because she didn't die did not mean that it didn't hurt.

Hannah tried to stand up, she could feel the giant gaining on her. Her legs caught around each other
and she fell back into the dirt. Muttering under her breath she stood up again, this time racing
toward the axe. The one that would solve this mess.
Reaching out to grab the axe she realized that she was still holding the harp and the ruby.
Dropping them in the grass she pulled the axe out of the stump and ran back toward the
beanstalk. Swinging the axe up and praying that it was the right thing she hit the stalk.
A loud crack broke out of the stalk, gold dust flew off it and the axe and gathered around her,
like ants on jam. Then she was lifted off the ground, a golden light enveloped her and the last thing
that she saw before being taken away was the beanstalk falling to the ground.
In her mind she hoped that the story ends well, that was her problem with her job. She never gets to
see how a story ends.

Unicorn Dance Party!

This week is Hooked on books week, during this week we get a new book every day to read with the class and do activities with. The first book this week was one called, liar. It is about a boy who creates a TRUTH app. In this app it can tell you whether someone is lying or telling the truth. Where were giving a slide with a bunch of activities we had to do. One of the activities was coding a Dance Party on Code.Org. I found this hard but once I finished the tutorial it was easy. On here we could create our own dance party by using a series of code blocks.

Here is mine:

Novel Study

This week was my first week back at school from being away for three months. Here is the link to my family's blog if you want to read about what we did while we were away. This week has been all about me catching up with work. One of the things I had to catch up on was Novel Study. Everyone else in my group is reading Anne Frank. But I have already read it and there were no more Anne Frank books left so I was allowed to choose a different one. I chose: I am David - Anne Holm.

Here is the slide that we have to work on for the Novel Study.

Comment if you are interested in the book.

Writing Prompt Story

For the past couple of days, I have been writing a short story that I got the idea from, from a writing prompt I saw online. Here is the Prompt:

Here is the story:

A Woman came to me once, she was in desperate need of help and even though I didn't know the first
thing about medicine, the only thing I could do to help her was let her inside and give her the soup that
was boiling on the stove. If I had known what was going to happen next I would have never helped her.
When the soup touched her lips she transformed into a powerful sorceress named Mendax. The Tales
of her magic spread across the lands, the good and the bad. She gifted me with a power, a power to help,
a power to heal. If only I knew the price of helping, the price wanting to be a good person.

The people of my village loved me, people came from far and wide to be healed by me. I believed I was
doing good. I believed that if I kept doing it people would live. I was walking through the village in the
valley below mine, this village was heavy with disease and sickness. But nothing I hadn't seen before,
I was determined to make a difference here. Out of nowhere, an arrow went speeding past me, missing me by inches. A cry of pain called me and I ran over to were a man had been shot, blood
leaked out of the wound, the arrow sticking out of his chest. I lent over the wound and blew on it. The
Arrow Disappeared, the beading stopped and the wound closed over, leaving not even a scar. A cry a
pain was let out beside me and I looked over in shock. A boy who was standing a moment before was
now lying on the ground, holding his stomach in shock. Because sticking out it was an arrow.

People looked over at me in fear, I saw it bubbling and boiling in their eyes. People shielded their
children from me. It all came collapsing down around me, I froze in confusion and shock.
“It's the Mors!” Someone yelled from behind me and everyone recoiled in shock and then ran.
“No! No, I'm not the Mors! I'm not! Please, Please. I can help him, my name is Sano. I just want to help!
Please!” I pleaded but it was too late, everyone had left and the boy had died.

I never healed anyone again. Until a woman came to me in desperate need of help…

Did you like it? If you did please leave a comment. Maybe you can have a go yourself with writing a story from this prompt and share it with me.

Hotzin Bird

For Reading, I have been learning about a bird called the Hoatzin. I made a slide to answer the questions and do the activities that were given to us about the text. One of the activities that we had to do was create a DLO to show our learning. I made this PiktoChart.

Did you learn something? Comment if you did and what you learned!
